Snoop Performs Two New Songs on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
No turning back, Snoop Lion is officially Snoopzilla. One day after celebrating his 41st birthday with friends like Busta Rhymes, DJ Quik, A$AP Rocky and B-Real by DJing all night at the Roxbury in Hollywood, Snoop kept the party going by performing two new songs on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (Oct. 21).
Snoop first chopped it up with the host and then took to the stage in the backlot, where he performed music from his joint album [no pun intended] with LA funk virtuoso Dâm-Funk, who was there to put it down. The band behind Snoop and Dâm was none other than L.A.-based producers 1500 Or Nothin. DPG producer/MC Daz Dillinger was chillin' stage side providing backup vocals.
The tracks, "Faden Away" and "Do My Thang," are both from Snoop and Dâm's forthcoming collaborative project, 7 Days of Funk.
"[The album] is real, real funky, it's West Coast, and I think people gonna really enjoy it," Snoop told BET.com. And he should know. His G-funk sound is what helped to make him famous 20 years ago on his debut album Doggystyle.
"Snoop knew what I was thinking without me having to articulate it," Dâm-Funk said via a statement to XXL. "That's how you know when you gel artistically with someone. These beats were made for him and he laid down some of the smoothest harmonies and melodies I’ve ever heard. It's hip hop, but you can also hear what we grew up on, from Zapp to Evelyn 'Champagne' King and Patrice Rushen."
7 Days of Funk is slated for release Dec. 10.
