Gearing up for the release of her deeply introspective Kimberly: The People I Used to Know album, K. Michelle has released a song from the project calling upon a rather extrospective view on one of pop culture’s favorite families: The Kardashians. 

Titled “Kim K,” the R&B soulstress holds nothing back as she rhymes over the track about society’s covert hypocrisy that keeps Black women caged in but allows women like Kim Kardashian and her family to flourish from the culture of those same trivialized Black women.

“Wish I could be a Kardashian, so I could be Black,” she croons. “They ask if it’s real, I say it’s real fat/ don't get caught up in facts, ‘cause ain’t sh*t real/ And ain’t sh*t funny.”

K also name drops a former flame of hers, British film star and Hollywood heartthrob Idris Elba, addressing the sharp criticism the two received when news broke out that they were dating. Had she been a white woman, however, the issue would have been nonexistent, K. Michelle argues in the track. In fact, much of the Rebellious Soul singer’s actions wouldn’t be so heavily scrutinized… if only she were a Kardashian, as the song asserts.  

“Wish I could be a Kardashian so I could be Black,” she sings in the second chorus. “Put my face over ‘Pac, wear my braids to the back/ Throw a filter on that, ’cause ain’t sh*t real/ And ain’t sh*t funny, so f*ck how you feel.”

K also mentions two other familiar names who happen to be closely (and unfavorably) associated with, the Kardashian clan, Blac Chyna and Tyga. Her thoughts on Chyna’s rise to stardom and current industry moves are a little blunter, however.

“I gotta f*ck with Blac Chyna/ She’s such a lion, no Tyga,” she sings. “She’s just a constant reminder/ Ni**as will sponsor vagina.”

It looks like K’s giving everyone the reminder that just because she’s no longer shaking up tables on her former Love & Hip Hop spot doesn’t mean she won’t shake up some controversy and conversation elsewhere.
