Former 'Glee' Star Amber Riley Says Don't Call Her 'Mercedes': "Put Some Respect On My Name"
Amber Riley has made it clear that she is not her character Mercedes from the show Glee. The actress headed to her Twitter on Saturday (Jan. 15) to let it be known that it is more than a pet peeve when she is referred to by her former character’s name and not her own.
“I despise when ppl call me Mercedes. Put some respect on my name. Call me AMBER or RILEY. It’s wild that I even have to say that,” she wrote on the social media platform. “I don’t answer to it, and if you do it facetiously I’ll block you.”
The award-winning actress shared in a follow-up tweet that her success is more than just her character on the former musical comedy-drama FOX series.
Both fans and internet trolls gathered in the comments to respond to Riley’s tweets. Some were in agreement while others thought the actress was reading a little too into it.
In case you missed it, Riley played Mercedes Jones in Glee from 2009 to 2015. Since the show’s finale, her acting credits include BET’s Christmas Deja Vu, HBO’s Black Lady Sketch Show, and Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
According to Deadline, the actress was cast in Dream, a musical comedy currently in development at NBC. She will also serve as co-executive producer.
