Fetty Wap, who is fresh off making this year’s XXL Freshman Class, stopped by Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning to talk about a myriad of topics, including his connection with Kanye West, his new dreads, his newfound celebrity status and more.

The Patterson, N.J., native has gotten a lot of praise and accolades since his single “Trap Queen” blew up last year. In particular, Wap was the special guest for West’s Roc City Classic concert, performed at the MTV Movie Awards and had Drake remix his song "My Way." Now he’s set to have a bigger summer with an upcoming project.

On Drake remixing “My Way”: “Honestly, Kanye texted me and told me he gave Drake my number. I was going through my Instagram and I seen it in the DM. He was like, ‘Yo, bro, I’m trying to get to you.’ And I sent him my number ASAP. From there, the way he came at me about even getting on the song. You know, certain people have certain power, if they want to just do it, they can just do it. It was just, like, way different. I wasn’t expecting that. The way he even asked me, ‘Yo, can I bless the track? Do I have your blessings for it?’ I’m reading this like, ‘Is it him? Or is it somebody else talking for him?’"

On meeting Kanye West: "Just good music. He told me he liked the song. He rocked with it. He told the whole world that’s one of his favorite songs right now. I never was the type of person to keep bothering people. He’d just hit me periodically out of nowhere and be like, 'Yo, bro, I’m proud of you,' and I’d hit him and say, 'Thank you for everything you did for me.'"

On his dreads: "They’re real dreads, but I didn’t grow them. It’s a lady that I know from Newark. She didn’t give them to me; she cut her hair off. You just don’t put anybody’s hair on your head. Since I did it, the last songs I recorded have all been some of the hottest songs I did, just from the good energy I’ve been getting."

On his studio process: "I learned my work ethic from [Gucci Mane]. When I go into the studio, I don’t leave until I make at least 20, 30 songs. Full songs. Verse, hook, verse. Next song. Verse, hook, verse. Next song."
