Anthony Mackie Gets Gangster
Best known for his stellar roles in “The Hurt Locker,” “Million Dollar Baby,” and most recently “The Adjustment Bureau,” Anthony Mackie is now morphing into one of L.A.’s finest, former LAPD lieutenant Rocky Washington. He has joined the cast of the Warner Brothers new crime drama “Gangster Squad,” and will share the screen with Oscar award winner Sean Penn (gangster Mickey Cohen), and fellow film stars Ryan Gossling, Josh Brolin and Michael Pena.
“The Untouchables” on the streets of L.A., is how the Los Angeles Times describes Warner Brother’s latest project. In the series, the LAPD fight gangland wars and try to stem the invasion of East Coast Mafia in the 1940s and 50’s.
Variety says that the anticipated show is based on a seven-part L.A. Times series, ''Tales From the Gangster Squad,'' compiled in 2008. The articles by Paul Lieberman, chronicled the Los Angeles Police Departments struggle with increasing crime and corruption in the 1940s, when the department formed the Gangster Squad to keep East Coast organized crime figures from planting roots.
