MTV Pulls the Plug on Jersey Shore
Jersey Shore is washed up.
The hit MTV reality series has been cancelled after six seasons, the network announced on Thursday. The final season will premiere on Oct. 4, along with a special recap of previous seasons called Gym, Tan, Look Back to air on Sept. 6, just before the MTV Video Music Awards.
At its peak, Jersey Shore was the top-rated show in MTV history, grabbing the attention of nine million viewers and beating out programming on all the major networks. The show's cast members, who have become pop culture icons, reacted to the news via Twitter.
"Yes, sadly it's true," new mom Snooki Polizzi tweeted. "This upcoming season of Jersey Shore will be our last. But it was fricken INSANE. I will always love my roomies!"
Pauly D wrote, "I Must Say, Sad To See It Go, But Am So Blessed To Have Been Apart Of This !!!!#TeamDJPaulyD Lives On."
"It's been one hell of a ride but this is just the beginning," Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola posted. "Thank you all for your love & support throughout the seasons!! These memories will never be forgotten!!"
It's hard to imagine what will take Jersey Shore's place, but undoubtedly MTV is cooking up something.
