Busisiwe Lurayi Dies Suddenly, Star Of Netflix Show ‘How to Ruin Christmas’
South African actress Busisiwe Lurayi, who starred in the Netflix series How to Ruin Christmas, has died. She was 36 years old.
According to an official statement issued by her South African talent agency, Eye Media Artists, Lurayi passed suddenly and was pronounced dead by medical personnel at her home on Sunday (July 10).
At this time, the cause of death remains unknown as the autopsy report results are underway.
“We humbly request that you allow us as the family to come to terms with this tragic news. We thank-you for the support that has been given so far and will provide further information as soon as it has been made available,” the statement concludes.
In June 2022, Netflix South African shared on their Instagram that Season 3 of How to Ruin Christmas was in production. Season 1 of the series premiered in 2020, with Season 2 released in Dec. 2021. Lurayi starred as Temi Sello in the Netflix comedy series.
Her other screen credits also include the South African sitcom City Ses'la and its spinoff Ses'Top La, the drama series Wild at Heart, and a 2006 episode of ER, per her IMDb profile.
She also appeared in South African T.V. shows Vutha, S.I.E.S., and Sokhulu and Partners II.
In 2006 she won the SAFTA ( ) Golden Horn Award for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Comedy for her work in City Ses’la before winning the same award in 2011. Lurayi returned to the SAFTA to snag yet another Golden Horn Award for Best Actress in a TV comedy for her role as Tumi in How to Ruin Christmas in 2021, according to IMDb.
She is survived by her daughter, Deadline notes.
