Gabby Douglas Explains How She Got Over the Hair Drama
While Gabrielle Douglas was busy winning Olympic gold medals for the U.S. gymnastics team, some took it upon themselves to criticize the teen's hair over Twitter. Fans of the Flying Squirrel came out full force in her defense, but the star athlete says she chose not to pay the haters any mind.
"I really didn't focus on it. There were so many positive things going around, I just went to the positivity," she recently shared with HuffPost Live. Becoming the first African-American Olympic gymnast to nab the gold for the individual all-around and for the team definitely gave Douglas something to smile about.
Some of us might have a hard time drowning out negative feedback and taunts, but Douglas said that gymnastics not only gave her something better to focus on, but also taught her the value of being disciplined.
"For me it was very easy at that time because I had won and everything was just blown up and I was so excited and, you know, I made history. Gymnastics has taught me a lot of things, to be disciplined and just don't worry about it ... I had a job to do at London so just focus on that road."
