Tory Lanez’s Recording Equipment Seized by Guards During Jail Cell Raid
Tory Lanez’s Prison Tapes series has been put on hold after authorities recently confiscated recording equipment from the singer’s prison cell.
According to TMZ Hip Hop, Ceasar McDowell, a chief deputy on Tory’s legal team, confirmed that prison guards seized the recording tools during a raid. McDowell was informed that recording devices are “strictly forbidden” in the California Correctional Institution.
Before this incident, last month, Tory had shared on Instagram that he and his engineer had developed a method to produce high-quality music despite the challenges of recording from prison. "After about 20-something to 30-something fuckups and mistakes, me and my engineer have finally figured out how to record music over the jail phone and still keep the quality as professional as I had it on the street," he said. "It's over. I done cracked the fucking code, man. This means that not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music. It's crazy!"
The Canadian is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for his role in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. In December 2022, he was convicted on three counts: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a concealed and loaded firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
