British KKK Admirer Defends Lynching of Black Doll
Images of white hood clad racists usually bring to mind the American South, but U.K. residents recently got a shock when video surfaced showing a group of Ku Klux Klan admirers staging a mock lynching in the Welsh city of Swansea using a black-face doll, known to Brits as a golliwog.
“It was all in jest and I don’t regret a minute of it and would so the same again,” said the 23-year-old unnamed man, who was responsible for staging the lynching, to the Sunday Mercury. “I admire the Klan and its Christian values and believe in racial segregation.”
The event took place last month at a “White Pride World Wide” event, but recently gained attention outside the community when the unnamed man posted video of the event to YouTube.
Now, U.K. lawmakers and activists are calling on police to investigate the incident thoroughly after the unnamed man was reportedly arrested.
“Police need to carry out a thorough investigation because individuals like this have the potential to cause serious damage to our communities through word and deed. His behavior is just not acceptable in this day and age,” said Birmingham parliamentarian Khalid Mahmood.
The Voice reports that a spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed that a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of inciting racial hatred.
“This related to material posted on the Internet, which is suspected to be of an extreme right-wing nature. The man has been bailed pending further inquiries by officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit,” the spokesman said according to the paper.
The man responsible claims that his actions were innocent and told the paper that he didn’t mean to incite hatred against Black people.
“I didn’t realize I was doing anything wrong. I wasn’t inciting anyone to go out and lynch Black people because it’s against the law,” he said. “The U.K. is only for white indigenous folk and everyone of color should be settled in one small area out the way or better still deported back to their place of origin.”
