RuPaul And More React To The Death Of 'Drag Race' Star Chi Chi DeVayne
Social media is mourning the passing drag performer Chi Chi DeVayne, also known as Zavion Davenport, from RuPaul’s Drag Race. RuPaul recently released a statement.
Via the RuPaul’s Drag Race twitter account, RuPaul wrote, "I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of Chi Chi DeVayne. I am so grateful that we got to experience her kind and beautiful soul. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. May her generous and loving spirit shine down on us all."
Ru continued, “On behalf of VH1, World of Wonder and the cast and crew of RuPaul’s Drag Race, I extend my deepest sympathy - from our family to hers.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, the Shreveport, Louisiana native was recently hospitalized due to kidney failure. On social media, Chi Chi often discussed her struggles with Scleroderma, which is a rare disease that affects connective skin tissues. The performer was only 34.
Chi Chi appeared on season eight of RuPaul’s Drag Race, broadcast on VH1 (which is owned and operated by BET’s parent company ViacomCBS), as well as RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars season three in 2018.
