Morgan Freeman Nearly Died On His Way to Shoot Special About God
Morgan Freeman had a near-death experience this weekend, ironically on his way to film a mini-series about God.
The Oscar-winning actor was traveling from Mississippi to Texas in a private plane to film an episode of the upcoming series The Story of God when one of the tires blew out, and it was forced to make an emergency landing. The frightening incident occured just after takeoff.
Thankfully, neither Freeman nor anyone else on board were hurt.
"Sometimes things don't go as planned and a tire blew on takeoff, which caused other problems," Freeman said in the statement early Sunday morning. "But thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson we landed safely without a scratch."
"I cannot say the same about my plane," he added, without elaborating. "I appreciate the concern and prayers for our safety."
This isn't the first time the 78-year-old has cheated death. He was involved in a major car crash in 2008, on a rural highway near his Mississippi home, from which he suffered serious injuries. No charges were filed and Freeman settled a lawsuit in 2009 that was filed by the passenger.
