Bobby Brown Says Writing Memoir Helped Him Cope With Bobbi Kristina Tragedy

The upcoming book, My Prerogative, will be "raw and unvarnished."

Bobby Brown suffered unspeakable tragedy this year when his daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown was found unconscious in her bathtub and later died. Though he's still struggling with the loss of his firstborn, Brown has managed to find some comfort in an unlikely place: by writing his memoirs.

Though the book deal was arranged before Bobbi Kristina's hospitalization, telling his story in print became a way of coping with his grief, Brown says. "Right after I signed on to write my story, I went through one of the most agonizing traumas I had ever experienced with the death of my daughter," Brown said. "But I was surprised by how therapeutic it was to work on this project, to look at the entire arc of my life and to realize that although there has been considerable pain, I have also been incredibly blessed."
Calling the work "raw and unvarnished," Brown says he hopes "my fans and other readers of this book ... will feel that I have been as honest and open with them in these pages as I have tried to be my entire life."
Brown's memoir, called My Prerogative, will be released in June 2016. Watch the R&B star in his first interview after Bobbi Kristina's death on The Real below:
