Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Marry in France
After a two-year engagement and a decade-long courtship, Hollywood power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have officially tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Correns, France. According to CNN, the private wedding was attended by close family and friends, and conducted by a California judge.
Pitt and Jolie told People magazine earlier this year that the wedding would be a family affair. The couple's six children played different roles in the ceremony. Their eldest sons, Maddox, 13, and Pax, 10, walked Jolie down the aisle, while Vivienne, 6, threw rose petals, and Shiloh, 8, and Knox, 6, served as ring bearers.
The pair first met on the set of their 2004 action film Mr. & Mrs. Smith while Pitt was still married to actress Jennifer Aniston. He announced the following year that he and Aniston split, with the actress filing for divorce in March 2005.
Pitt was adamant on holding off from marriage until "everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able." He further reinforced his dedication to marriage equality in a 2011 interview with People:
"Thanks to the tireless work of so many, someday soon this discrimination will end and every American will be able to enjoy their equal right to marriage," he said following the legalization of same-sex marriage in New York State.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
