Frank Ocean Gifted Us A New Track on ‘blonded Xmas’ Radio Show
Frank Ocean gifted fans and listeners with a special Christmas episode of his Apple Music 1-aired blonded RADIO show. Released earlier today, Dec. 25, the award-winning recluse shared an intimate conversation between himself and motivational speaker and extreme athlete Wim “Iceman” Hof about dealing with grief.
Ocean’s younger brother, Ryan Breaux, passed away in August 2020 due to an unfortunate car accident.
This vulnerable look inside Ocean’s world comes after two years since his last Apple Music installment. Speaking about the conversation with the extreme athlete, Ocean said, “We spoke for a while about his work, the purpose of grief, and how going into the cold water changed his life. It reminded me of conversations in the studio with players I know.”
With keys and additional sounds by Cory Henry and Dylan Patrice Wiggins, Ocean freewheels for almost nine minutes, rapping about his late brother, the need for a spiritual connection, and delivers emotionally charged lines that will make anyone sit back and cherish the memories of their own loved ones. “I could be great, I’m on my way / If I wanna escape, I can escape,” he declares in the refrain’s lyrics.

“I added some writing at the end that I did a single take of [with] Cory [Henry] in the summer of 2020,” he added. “I came back and added a few words and parts over the top of that take more recently. Felt like it fit the wabi-sabi of Wim’s words. Merry Xmas everyone.”
The unnamed and heartfelt track is currently only officially available to listeners via Apple Music, and there’s been no word yet on whether it will be uploaded to other streaming platforms.
In the meantime, it has been preserved in fan recordings like the one you can play below. Perhaps, this hints at more new music from the great singer-songwriter as we move closer to his headlining performance at Coachella in 2023.
