Mahalia Jackson Movie Producers Apologize to Fantasia
Producers of the Mahalia Jackson biopic have issued an official apology to its star, Fantasia Barrino.
Despite reports this week that Barrino was being edged out of the role because of her pregnancy by a married man, Double Dutch Productions LLC (DDP), the production company behind Mahalia!, says it isn’t so, according to Sister 2 Sister.
DDP released a statement yesterday, which read it “extends apologies to Fantasia Barrino for the inaccurate, non-factual and disparaging statements of Ms. Barrino’s reputation, character and image.”
The gossip concerning Barrino originated with a man named Adrian Taylor, who was quoted in the New York Post as saying that Fantasia’s complicated and controversial personal life could taint the gospel icon’s reputation and legacy.
But DDP discredited all of Taylor’s accusations by saying, “The comments made by financing broker Adrian Taylor were not authorized or approved by the producers of DDP,” the company said in a statement. “[Adrian] is not an employee of this production or an active participant of any facet in the producing of this film.”
The production company even went further to completely distance themselves, the movie and Mahalia Jackson's family from the broker by saying in the statement, “Mr. Taylor does not speak for this company or the production of this film. The Mahalia Jackson family has not made any negative comments, none whatsoever, about Ms. Barrino and her participation in this film project.”
