Michael Jordan Pleads Charlotte to 'Restore Calm' After Protests for the Police Murder of Keith Lamont Scott

Here's what the hoops legend had to say.

Is this a new Michael Jordan we're seeing?

After breaking his silence about police brutality and cop targeting and donating $2 million in combined pledges to help combat each issue in July, the hoops legend is now speaking up about the violent protests in Charlotte following Keith Lamont Scott being shot and killed by police on Tuesday.

In a statement released by his manager, Estee Portnoy, the NBA Hall of Famer and Charlotte Hornets owner acknowledged Scott's loss, but also asked the downtown Charlotte community to "restore calm."

"First, I want to express my condolences to the Scott family for their loss," Jordan said, as reported by the New York Daily News. "I also wish for a full recovery to those who have been injured."

He added, "In light of the tragic events of the past three days, it is more important than ever that we restore calm and come together, as a community in peaceful demonstration and conversation, and in constructive and non-violent ways. As part of the fabric of Charlotte, the Hornets organization is committed to working with civic leaders, our elected leaders and law enforcement to foster most trust, transparency and understanding so we can heal and grow together as a community."

Hey, it's better than him saying nothing, right? Before breaking his silence about police brutality this past summer, the six-time NBA champion had long been criticized for not speaking up about social injustice.

Maybe he has turned a new leaf or perhaps these blatant incidents are just too much to overlook.

Scott, 43, was shot and killed by a police officer outside of his building in Charlotte on Tuesday. Although police said he was a threat and carrying a gun, Scott's family said he was holding a book.
