Tina Lawson Speaks Out On Her Ex-Husband Mathew Knowles' Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Tina Lawson is speaking out for the first time about her ex-husband Mathew Knowles' breast cancer diagnosis, and she firmly believes he will pull through.
While at the opening of Tyler Perry Studios over the weekend, she shared some positive words with Entertainment Tonight.
"Thank God he [discovered] it very early on, and he is going to be fine," she said. "I'm [calling] it."
The two, who together have raised their superstar daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, were married for more than 30 years before divorcing in 2011. They are now both happily remarried to other partners — Tina is with actor Richard Lawson and Mathew's wife is Gena Charmaine Avery.
Knowles revealed his battle with breast cancer earlier this month, telling Good Morning America, "The first calls I made were to my kids, and my former wife, Tina."
He added that his current wife, Gena, was already aware of his diagnosis as "she went with me to the exam."
Regarding his health status, Knowles mentioned that he has had one breast removed and plans on having the other removed next year.
"You can survive this, but it has to be early detection," he said.
