A night of fun turned violent for a group of deaf friends at a Florida lounge, after a female gang member mistook their sign language for gang signs and alerted her cohorts who attacked them Saturday night, the New York Daily News reports.

Alfred Stewart, 31, was hanging out with his friends at the Hallendale Beach establishment when Barbara Lee, 45, started flashing gang signs at them. The group gestured for her to leave them alone and she did end up leaving, but later returned with two members of her gang, Marco Ibanez, 19, and a 17-year-old, according to police. Ibanez allegedly stabbed Stewart and one of his friends. Another victim was “struck multiple times,” according to reports.

Stewart, his friends and a bouncer who were injured in the ruckus were taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police arrested the gang members and charged them with aggravated battery.
