21 Savage, Donald Glover, Caleb McLaughlin Star in 'American Dream' Trailer
In 2019, the "Free 21 Savage" campaign emerged following the arrest of the British-born rapper, 21 Savage, by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The arrest brought attention to his immigration status, revealing that despite his public persona as an Atlanta-based rapper, he was born in the United Kingdom and had overstayed his visa.
21 Savage, whose real name is She'yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, had moved to the United States as a child and grew up in Atlanta. His arrest during a targeted operation by ICE not only shocked the public but also sparked a wave of support from fans, fellow artists, and advocates who rallied behind him.
Many argued that 21 Savage should be allowed to stay in the country due to his deep ties to the U.S., his contributions to the music industry, and his involvement in various community initiatives. Supporters highlighted the need for immigration reform and a more compassionate approach to individuals with similar circumstances to 21 Savage's.
On Tuesday, the rapper, actor, and director Donald Glover and "Stranger Things" star Caleb McLaughlin released a super-trailer for a new project, “American Dream: The 21 Savage Story,” a memoir of his incarceration.
Produced by Tara Razavi and Udeorji, "American Dream: The 21 Savage Story" is directed by Donald Glover, Stephen Glover, Jamal Olori and Fam Udeorji, depicts three generations of 21 Savage (Glover, McLaughlin) in the heat of a personal crisis.
The project is scheduled to be released on July 4th.
