Colman Domingo Addresses Kang Casting Rumors
Colman Domingo is interested in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but only if it feels right.
During a recent appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, the Academy Award nominee addressed speculation that he was in talks to take over the role of Kang the Conqueror following Jonathan Majors’ firing.
While Domingo confirmed that he met with Marvel, he clarified that the discussions were not about stepping into Majors’ former role.
“When I saw my name circulating online in connection to Kang, I had to check with my team,” Domingo shared. “I asked, ‘Are there conversations happening that I don’t know about?’ And they told me no.”
He continued, “I literally called up my team and said, ‘Are you guys having conversations that I have no idea about?’ And they said no. ‘Are you guys being cagey or what?’ They weren’t.”

Majors was originally slated to lead the next phase of the MCU as Kang before Disney cut ties with him in December 2023 after his conviction for assault and harassment. With his departure, fans speculated about a possible recast, with Domingo’s name frequently in the mix.
However, the “Sing Sing” star clarified that his meeting with Marvel happened later than many assumed and was not focused on replacing Majors.
“There had been conversations of me coming into Marvel in some way, so we did follow up with a sit down meeting with the heads of Marvel. I did do that,” he stated.
Domingo revealed during the meeting, “We talked openly about the landscape of Marvel and the Kang rumors,” adding, “I am all about energy. I want to do things that make sense and bring gentle energy. I want a role to be mine, whatever I develop. Something didn’t feel right to me about replacing someone. I want to build something from the ground up that is my own.”
While the Kang rumors may be put to rest, Domingo hinted that his Marvel journey isn’t over just yet. “I want to build something from the ground up,” he said, “so there still are talks.”
