Lil Durk Announces ‘Break’ from Music After Suffering Injury During Lollapalooza Performance
Rapper Lil Durk is taking some much-needed time off to focus on his health after suffering a severe injury while performing at Lollapalooza 2022 in Chicago’s Grant Park over the weekend.
The “Huuh” emcee took to his Instagram account on Sunday (July 31), where he gave his 14 million followers an update following the Saturday event, revealing his decision to go on a hiatus for an undisclosed amount of time. “Due to the incident that happened at Lollapalooza in Chicago on stage, I’ma take a break & focus on my health,” he wrote.
The 29-year-old rap star, born Durk Derrick Banks, finished his post, which featured a photo of himself wearing a mask in what appeared to be a hospital room. The emcee’s left eye was covered with medical gauze pads and wrapped in bandages.
Durk concluded his post by writing, “I finished my performance yesterday for my fans” before adding, “Appreciate y’all.”
According to fan footage, during his performance, the entertainer is seen walking across the stage before being struck directly in the face following a pyrotechnic explosion. The “Barbarian” musician is then seen wiping his face with his shirt as others rush over to check on him. Following a slight pause, Durk resumed his set. No one else was reported injured.
It’s unclear what caused the stage equipment to go off or the severity of Durk’s injuries. We wish him a speedy recovery.
