Ben Affleck Can't Make It Work With Any Woman Named Jennifer
Bennifer 2.0 is officially over. Ben Affleck and his wife Jennifer Garner have called it quits on their marriage, they confirmed in a joint statement on Tuesday. The couple, who are parents to daughters Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and son Samuel, 3, made the announcement just one day after their 10th wedding anniversary.
"After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce," the statement said. "We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding."
While rumors have been circulating about the pair living "separate lives" for a while now, Affleck's marriage to Garner was at one point supposed to be the antidote to his whirlwind romance with Jennifer Lopez (the original "Bennifer"). He credits their low-key (some would say boring, especially compared to Lopez) relationship as making him a more serious actor and filmmaker.
"Getting to know her, falling in love with her and being connected with her gave me a foundation to reach out and say, 'Okay, I'm going to do Hollywoodland. I'm going to direct Gone Baby Gone,'" Affleck said to Playboy in 2013. "Those were the steps forward I needed to put positive stuff on the board."
Affleck certainly wasn't making any sexy music videos with his down-to-earth bride, but they did seem like a cute couple. Bennifer 2.0 will be missed.
