Vybz Kartel Granted Bail on One Murder Charge
Dancehall artist Vybz Kartel received some good news today in his quest to win his freedom.
According to Complex.com, a judge granted the singer bail on one of the two murder charges he is facing. Kartel posted the $3 million (35,000 U.S. Dollars) bail, but remains in a Jamaican prison pending a second bail hearing tomorrow (December 2).
The news of his possible release comes days after several media outlets reported the reggae star had escaped from prison. The story was quickly debunked by Jamaican law enforcement officials. Kartel’s lawyer, Christian Tavares-Finson, spoke to Boomshots.com about the outrageous jail break story.
"As far as incidents with escaping from custody, our position is very simple: it is an attempt to prejudice the case against Adidja Palmer,” Tavares-Finson said. “As it is here now, he’s going to go through a series of bail applications as the case progresses. When you have issues like these arising, it does create some concern for the public and the court itself."
As previously reported, the “Rampin Shop” singer was arrested on October 1 after they discovered a corpse in a house he allegedly frequents. Weeks later authorities pinned another murder charge on Kartel, suspecting that he was involved in the death of Clive “Lizard” Williams on August 16, 2011.
