Oprah Winfrey Opens Up About Her Fear of Balloons
It's hard to imagine that anything could shake up the force that is Oprah Winfrey, but in the October issue of O Magazine, the media mogul revealed a fear of something most people find joyful: balloons.
"I don't like balloons, and for my 40th birthday my entire staff decided to surprise me," the 59-year-old writes. "I come downstairs and the entire audience is filled with balloons. Literally, I'm stepping over balloons, having to walk through balloons and I'm so, like, 'Oh! When is one going to pop?'"
Winfrey explains how balloons popping remind her of gunfire and that being around them "really freaks me out." But that day she had no other choice but to confront her fear and walk through.
"There are a few things that in life, if you allow them to, can really keep you from moving forward," Winfrey says. "You have to really walk through it."
The theme facing your fears will be the main topic in O Magazine's October issue, which hits newsstands Sept. 17.
