For the most part, during the ‘90s, if you weren’t beefin’ with another rapper from your area, you were tight. That was especially the case in New York during the famed hip hop era and allegedly the circumstance when it came to Redman and Nas.

During a recent interview with WatchLoud, Red recalled his relationship with the Queensbridge legend and says he used to fetch him weed when they both lived on Long Island.

“We [were both] out, I knew him, his girl and his girl was working at Def Jam, right here on Bleecker Street, so this was a long time I knew him,” the New Jersey native remembered. “I used to go get Nas blunts. He used to ask me ‘cause he from Queens and moved to Long Island and just so happens I moved to Long Island with EPMD, I’m from Jersey. I used to go to the homie house back when we was young, like 23, 24.”

He also mentions how his classic 1994 LP, Dere Iz a Darkside, is his least favorite album and doesn’t even remember creating it.

“I was high, I was going through tough times. You know how you go through tough times sometimes in life and you’re just reaching out for some help and you’re just not getting that help?” he recalled when asked about his least favorite album. “I don’t even remember making that album. I forgot where I made that album at. How I made it. Everything. I know I did it in Long Island, but that was it.”

Redman released his eighth album, Mudface, earlier this month in preparation for the long-awaited sequel to his 1996 LP, Muddy Waters. Also during the three-part WatchLoud series, Red spoke about how the ‘90s were better for hip hop and whether or not he believes O.J. Simpson actually committed murder in 1994.
