Forecasters report that tropical storm conditions are making their way to coastal Virginia, Maryland and Delaware as Hurricane Irene moves northward, the Associated Press reports.
Sustained winds are expected to reach at least 39 mph.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Saturday morning that Irene was still showering Eastern North Carolina with heavy rain and wind, but that those conditions would soon spread north.
