Wayne Brady on Embracing His Sexuality: 'It's Not a Transformation'

The 'Let's Make a Deal' host explains that his revelation about being pansexual wasn't about a dramatic change but about personal freedom and authenticity.

Sexual orientation shouldn’t be a topic for discussion at the table; it should be normalized. That’s precisely how Wayne Brady feels, as he shared with People a year after coming out as pansexual.

In an exclusive interview with the outlet, Brady shares that telling the world about his sexual identity was for him and that it wasn’t meant to be a “transformation.”

“Coming out was for me, so I didn't expect any grand... It wasn't a transformation, it isn't like the end of... No, thank you,” he began.

“It's not like Beauty and the Beast where all of a sudden you're whipped and changed. The change is internal and it's a great change to feel.”

The “Let’s Make It A Deal” host expressed that it was “one of the sweetest things” in his life, emphasizing that it’s normal.

“It's normal, which everyone should be allowed to just have your baseline be whatever your happy is,” he said.

“And my happy is I can just be free, and do what I want to, when I want to do it, and with whomever. That's the cool part.”

A month after coming out as pansexual, the 52-year-old shared back in September 2023 how he was adjusting to his “new normal” to Entertainment Tonight

“It would be hard for me to truly put myself 100 percent into a relationship when there's this nagging doubt that I have not explored that piece of me, or even given voice to having that option,” he explained.

“It doesn't mean that it's ever going to manifest itself in a relationship with a man, or a relationship with this person. I don't know, but at least being able to voice that, so that, if I go into a relationship, whomever I'm in a relationship with knows me 100 percent. I think that's the piece that was missing, that I couldn't verbalize, 'cause I couldn't lock on to it. I always felt this much dishonest, and if I was being dishonest, then there's no way to truly give yourself 100 percent.”
