Dope Director Rick Famuyiwa Boards Anita Hill Biopic
Rick Famuyiwa, who is earning raves for his Sundance hit Dope, has signed on to direct HBO's Anita Hill biopic starring Kerry Washington.
The film, titled Confirmation, is written by Susannah Grant, who was nominated for an Academy Award for penning Erin Brockovich. Shooting will begin this summer, so we look forward to hearing about other casting decisions, including who will play the controversial Clarence Thomas.
Hill, as most know, testified before a Senate panel in 1991 against Supreme Court contender Thomas, accusing the justice of sexually harassing her. Despite the groundswell of support for Hill ("I believe you, Anita!" was a popular refrain), Thomas was confirmed to the Court.
Meanwhile, Dear White People star Tessa Thompson has landed the lead female role in the indie comedy War on Everyone. The film follows two corrupt cops (Michael Pena and Alexander Skarsgard) in New Mexico "who set out to blackmail and frame every criminal unfortunate enough to cross their path." Thompson will play a former stripper and girlfriend of one of the cops.
