Clive Davis Reveals Bisexuality in New Book
After over 50 years of working with the biggest names in the music industry — from Aretha Franklin to Whitney Houston to Alicia Keys — one certainly has quite a few impressive stories to tell. Longtime music impresario is sharing some of his legendary tales in his new autobiography, The Sound Track of My Life.
The over 500-page book covers Davis’ upbringing in Brooklyn, his rise from attorney to music honcho and reveals intimate details about his sexuality. Davis, who now serves as the chief creative officer of Sony Music Entertainment, makes the revelation that he is bisexual and has spent the last seven years in a relationship with a man. Prior to his current relationship Davis was in a 13 year partnership with another man, a doctor, following the end of his second marriage in 1985.
In an interview with ABC’s Nightline, Davis says the "maligned and misunderstood" perception of bisexuality in society encouraged him to go public.
"I'm not lying," Davis said in response to the ABC reporter’s notion that he's either gay, straight or lying. "[Bisexuality] does exist. For over 50 years I never had sex with a male. It wasn't repressed. I had very good sexual relationships with women."
Though he is now comfortable with discussing his sexuality in public, Davis will not reveal the names of his partners in an effort to protect their privacy.
Along with his very personal confession Davis’ autobiography also details some page-turning behind-the-scenes stories about the well-known talent he has worked with over the years. The now 80-year-old exec has guided the careers of a wide range of stars that includes Usher, Diddy, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Santana, Janis Joplin and Pink.
Tune in to Nightline tonight to watch Davis discuss the book and more with anchor Cynthia McFadden.
