T.I.: I Do Not Ghostwrite for Iggy Azalea
Iggy Azalea may have the song of the summer with “Fancy,” which stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for eight weeks, and is having an awesome year from BET Awards nominations to seven VMA nods, but haters are still going to hate.
Rumors continue to swirl that the Aussie femcee is leaning on her Grand Hustle boss to pen her verses. But recently, T.I. shut it all down confirming that it wasn’t true.
"I mean, I ain’t no ghostwriter," Tip said in an interview with Detroit’s Hot 107.5. "Iggy got her own ideas and thoughts that she presents to the world her own way."
Although Iggy has been receiving praise as a rising female MC, music lovers insisted that Nicki Minaj's BET Awards Best Female Hip Hop Artist comments about writing her own lyrics were directed at Iggy.
However, T.I. insists that she's just as creative as any other rap artist in the game. "I couldnt write a lot of the s--t she say," Tip continued. "I couldn't put her thoughts into words as articulate as she does. She just has a different way of presenting herself and her art."
T.I. did admit that when artists are in the studio, influence can come from labelmates. "Now, don’t get me wrong, everybody in the studio helps with hooks and certain things like that," T.I. said. "That goes for me and any of the other top five rappers [and] performers."
Even Questlove offered his opinion on the Iggy debate. "I'm not going to lie to you, I'm torn between the opinions on the Internet, but I'mma let Iggy be Iggy," he said. "The song is effective… 'Fancy' is the song of the summer," he added about her No.1 hit.
So, there you have it. Iggy writes her own music and has a song of the summer. Hopefully both Quest and T.I. cleared it up for the naysayers.
