Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and Ricky Martin Show Support for Kamala Harris After Offensive Comment About Puerto Rico at Donald Trump Rally
Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and Ricky Martin backed Kamala Harris on Sunday (Oct. 27) after a comedian referred to Puerto Rico as “a floating island of garbage” at a Donald Trump rally in New York’s Madison Square Garden, sparking outrage from Puerto Rican stars and the entertainment industry.
“There’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico,” Tony Hinchcliffe said to the crowd. Watch his full speech below.
Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny, known for speaking on issues affecting his homeland, quickly posted a clip of the vice president discussing her commitment to Puerto Rico’s welfare. In the video, Harris criticizes Trump’s handling of disaster aid following devastating hurricanes and his general neglect toward the island.
“I will never forget what Donald Trump did and what he did not do when Puerto Rico needed a caring and a competent leader,” Harris said in the video, which the “MONACO” hitmaker reshared to his Instagram Story multiple times. “He abandoned the island, tried to block aid after back-to-back devastating hurricanes, and offered nothing more than paper towels and insults.”
Lopez, also of Puerto Rican descent, showed her support by sharing the same video to her Story. Ricky Martin, another vocal supporter, posted the same video on his Instagram Story, stating, “I remember.” He also shared the Hinchcliffe clip, bringing further attention to the offensive statement.
