GQ Crowns Kanye West as Most Stylish Man of 2015
Just a few weeks ago, Kanye West’s Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 sneakers were named the best sneaker design of 2015. Now, for the second year running, GQ has crowned Yeezy as the year’s most stylish man.
If you really think about it, was there ever any competition? West made his New York Fashion Week debut in February with Yeezy Season 1 and debuted the follow up, Season 2, in September. Despite lots of flack from critics over his minimalistic aesthetic, both lines have proved tremendously successful. The futuristic pieces took streetwear to the next level, working mostly in palettes of nudes, olive green and gray. This is also the man whose wife, Kim Kardashian, openly credits for “really changing everything,” helping her to become the style icon she is today.
New styles of Yeezy Boosts dropped throughout the year, and retailers couldn’t keep up with the demand for the $200 kicks. Doubt the appeal? The Yeezy Boost 350 in a tan colorway hit retail December 29 and sold out online less than two hours later, according to the Adidas Originals Twitter account.
That's said, it's pretty understandable as to why the rapper’s personal style has garnered a strong following. As GQ’s Matt Sebra writes:
“From Haider Ackermann velvet bomber jackets to Balmain blazers, ripped Acne jeans to his beloved Bottega Veneta Chelsea boots, every piece West wears sparks a discussion on the current state of menswear (and, we assume, launches a million Google searches).”
It’ll certainly be interesting to see what Ye rolls out in 2016, whether it be new music or just another good excuse to go shopping.
