Meagan Good Chats About Her Upcoming Projects
In 2006, Meagan Good, Tasha Smith, and newcomer Ty Hodges made an independent film called Miles From Home, about a homeless teen that falls into the world of drugs, violence, and prostitution on the street. It took five years, but the movie is finally coming out on DVD April 15, which was cause for celebration at a Hollywood party at Supperclub on Tuesday night.
“You could say it’s a Black art house film,” begins Good, a producer on the movie. “How do we market it? We waited and waited and finally decided to do it ourselves. It’s not only a labor of love, but it’s important. The story talks about a lot of things that are going on right now.”
Good is equally excited about her next movie Jumping the Broom, which comes out May 6 and casts her as Blythe, best friend to Paula Patton’s bride, Sabrina. “I’m a character who doesn’t believe in love, but then I find that maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I need to approach love in a different way,” she says. Does a man cause that change of heart? “Maybe,” she added with a coy smile.
She has great memories of the shoot in Nova Scotia, except for one thing: Mosquitoes. “They were chasing us like it was The Birds or something,” Good recalls, referencing the Hitchcock horror flick.
She has two more independent films due out later this year. “In 35 and Ticking, my character is a young, unassuming girl looking for what she’s going to do with her career, and she ends up falling for Kevin Hart’s character, who turns out not to be who he says he is. It’s about their love affair as they try to work it out.”
The comedy Dysfunctional Friends “is about a young millionaire who passes away and leaves his money to all of his friends who have to stay in his mansion for a week and none of them get along. But they have to figure it out to get the inheritance.” The ensemble cast includes Stacey Dash, Persia White, Tatyana Ali, Terrell Owens, Hosea Chanchez and Essence Atkins.
Good will also reteam with Ty Hodges in Video Girl, about a video vixen.
