Professor Anthea Butler returned to Twitter Wednesday to respond to Conservatives accusing her of being racist. Butler had tweeted that racism against President Obama was a reason why the government was going to shut down on Tuesday.
"Please note that the last govt shut down was with the fake black president Clinton. Now they are have a real black president to mess with," Butler, a University of Pennsylvania associate professor of religious studies, tweeted Monday. Later she wrote, "I'm going to bed. Sad thing is, when I wake up, these crazy republicans will still be frothing at the mouth while folks sign up 4Obamacare."
As the message was shared throughout the social media site, many Conservative supporters responded to her tweet, labeling her as a racist for her remarks. Butler defended her comments Wednesday morning and began to remind her accusers why she is not the one to be mad at.
"If this situation doesn't resolve in a couple of weeks, it won't matter if I am a racist or not. Your money won't be worth what it is today," she wrote. "The 'Amurica' you love so much will take a financial hit. Terrorists will look at us and laugh because we are doing the work for them," she continued. 
In the meantime, the government is still closed for business for the third day. The president met with Republican and Democratic leaders in Congress on Wednesday to reach a deal, but both sides fail to agree on a budget. Meanwhile, 800,000 employees continue to take unpaid time off because of the shutdown.
