Jeezy on Mizzou Racial Tension: It Makes No Sense

Rapper says people "don't understand each other."

Escalating racial tension on the University of Missouri campus and beyond makes absolutely “no sense,” Jeezy said in an interview with HuffPo Live. The rapper is dumbfounded by an influx of incidents that fueled unrest in places likes Ferguson while permeating social media and political conversations lately.

"This is the land of the free, the home of the brave. We have to live and honor that," he said. "I just think right now, you have all these people living in this country and they just don't understand each other. Nothing is bringing them together."

Mizzou recently grabbed national attention after football players went on strike out of protest against the university’s president, who later stepped down. The resignation did little to calm an already strained situation.

Two Mizzou students were arrested for sending racially motivated threats via the social media site Yik Yak, actions of which are “coming out of a place of ignorance,” said the Atlanta native. "[There] needs to be more [education on] why we don't get along. We're all the same inside."

Jeezy said that he’s “never been a racist” and never met one.  “I don't understand what racism is about."

He added, "It makes you think, 'Are you learning this at home? You had to learn this somewhere.' I just think that any time you got people that's willing to go out and hurt anybody for any ignorant reason, we gotta start teaching something somewhere, because that makes no sense to me."
