This Is Why DMX Hated Jay Z
Irv Gotti revealed in an interview that Hov and X competed against each other back before they became household names. “They always had friction because they battled and X, like, hated him,” Gotti told Complex. “Jay didn’t really give a f**k but they was always on some competitive s**t. That’s just the truth.”
Gotti shared a bunch of stories from the early days of Murder Inc. He says Jay passed on signing X because he thought the Yonkers rapper’s music was too sad.
Needless to say, he was pretty surprised when X blew up, Gotti said. “He looked and seen what I did with X and was like, ‘Holy s**t. That s**t worked.’”
From what we know, X and Hov don’t have any present-day friction, and both did well for themselves at one point or another. Despite his current money issues, X remains one of the highest-selling rappers in history.
As for mega mogul Hov, his long list of accolades includes being half of a billion dollar couple.
