Classic Cop Drama 'New York Undercover' Celebrates 30 Years With A National Tour
The TV show “New York Undercover” is celebrating its 30th anniversary by taking their show on the road. Yes, a New York Undercover Tour is on the way for this iconic police procedural drama from the 90s! And it will be national! The tour will feature the beloved cast of Malik Yoba, Luna Lauren Velez, and Michael DeLorenzo. The actors shared this news on “The Tamron Hall Show.”
"Audiences (have) never had a chance to have this experience with us so we intend to go on the road as (a) cast," Yoba said. "We're going to hit markets across America.”
“We used to call it the little ghetto show that could,” Yoba shared with Hall. This appearance on “The Tamron Hall Show” in 2024 was these New York Undercover alums’ first daytime interview as a cast. The show didn’t receive much promotion when it was originally on air.
"Despite the fact we were number one in Black and Latino households, at the time, it wasn't regarded as mainstream fare," Yoba continued.
“There was never a poster, never a billboard, never a T-shirt,” Yoba said of “New York Undercover’s” lack of promotion during the show’s run. The show succeeded despite that lack.
And indeed, this tour will be just as successful. One of the things “New York Undercover” boasted was their musical guests, which made the music its own entity on the show. Artists like Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Celia Cruz, The Notorious B.I.G., Al Green, Aaliyah, D'Angelo, SWV, Ziggy and Damian Marley, and so many more all performed at Natalie’s Night Club.
Some of those musical artists may be on the tour. Yoba shared, “We're working with artists that have performed on the show."
