Looks Like J. Cole Is Taking His 'No Features' Stance to Another Level
This past Friday, Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$ released his sophomore studio album, All-Amerikkkan Bada$; a project that was met with critical acclaim, particularly for his unapologetic lyricism tackling themes such as being Black in America in today's political climate.
Woven into the project's 12-track collection is something that is of exceptionally high value: a rare feature from no less than the likes of J. Cole. Of the increasingly rare guest feature, Joey Bada$ recently divulged that his album may be the last time that the Dreamville rapper may lend his talents, save for his own work.
During a sit-down with radio host Ebro Darden, Joey Bada$ shares how he got his hands on the verse, revealing that it arrived the day before J. Cole released his latest album, 4 Your Eyez Only.
"Cole already told me he was getting me my verse," Joey says during the sit-down. “And literally, he told me, like, ‘Joe, you are the only person I got on my feature list. I ain’t doing no more features. Only your feature is the one that’s important to me.’ Literally, the day before 4 Your Eyez Only came out, he sent the verse back."
As exemplified by his catalog, J. Cole doesn't give just anyone a guest verse these days, with his latest blessing arriving on DJ Khaled's Major Key album in 2016.
Looks like those who daydream of securing a guest verse from J. Cole may have to either sit tight for the "no features" policy to loosen or simply wait until it's their time to get lucky. Either way, such a situation is going to require a heck of a lot of patience, and we can only imagine how much the price has gone up, too.
