Keke Palmer Talks About Her Postpartum Workout Success
This week, Keke Palmer shared a video on Instagram about working out with her trainer, Corey Calliet.
In the caption, Palmer wrote that she gained over 40 pounds during her pregnancy with her son, Leo. She added, "I will be honest, before my son, I was very weight conscious, and even still, I was considered somewhat "fit," however, I didn't always feel it! Yes, a lot of those emotions can be fleeting, one day we feel great, and the next, we don't; it's natural! At the same time, it's still a part of my job because of the kind of career I have and want to have."
She added, "I love physicality, and I love action work, which I got to do a lot of in NOPE. To do those things, you have to be strong physically, so in the back of my mind, physical image was always a trigger point."
Palmer goes on to explain how training after her son made her feel. "I was so afraid of getting back out there," she wrote,. "It was my first night away from my baby boy (my boobs were GORGED by the end of the night lololol). He got me prepared and changed my mindset for the better. I feel more empowered after my son than I ever did before."
According to Popsugar, Palmer started working out with Calliet just two months after giving birth. Calliet helped her train ahead of the 2023 Met Gala. The celebrity trainer told Popsugar that Palmer told him, "I want to look the best that I ever looked in my life,"
"I knew what she was wearing," Calliet says — a strapless custom Sergio Hudson dress — "so I wanted to focus on making sure her arms and back looked good when she was walking down the red carpet for the Met Gala. And we exceeded that."
Just months after giving birth, Palmer's new mom's glow and toned body made her name trend on social media for more than a week after the event.
Recently, Palmer shared that while she has "snapped back," she doesn't want to set unrealistic expectations for other new moms.
In an interview with The Cut, Palmer said, "It's a personal choice, and so I never want to put that on anybody," she said. "And that's big for me because I know that a lot of people look at me and I represent a lot of people in different ways, so I always want to make it clear — especially when I'm talking about fitness, health, and wellness — that, 'Your journey is your journey. You figure it out the way you can.'"
Always booked and busy, Palmer also says that she and Corey Caillet will soon create workouts for moms to do at home.
