Sherwood Brown and his son Sherwood Jr. are carrying on their family's tradition of receiving their higher education at Florida A&M University.

Brown, who earned his MBA, and his son, who earned his bachelor's degree in business administration, both celebrated their accomplishment at FAMU's commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 3. 
Brown graduated from FAMU in 1989 with a bachelor's degree and fulfilled his promise to himself to earn his master's. His dream was made possible through the university's online program.  
“I wanted to accomplish something that I said I would do but never did,” Sherwood Sr. said to FAMU. “I also understood that in corporate America, you are only as good as your last month, so I knew I needed to have those credentials.”
Sherwood Jr. plans to pursue a career in marketing and at the same time go after his musical endeavors. While at FAMU, he took classes in business and in the Department of Music. Rebecca Brown, FAMU's interim assistant vice president for Administrative Services, is proud of her husband and son's accomplishments.  
“It’s really important to me that here at FAMU you have people that really care about the success of the student. You get that extra push and rich tradition of extra care, which was important to the success of my son and my husband,” Rebecca said to FAMU.
