Chaka Khan Tour and Album Delayed
Queen of Funk-Soul Chaka Khan has canceled tour dates this month and delayed her next album to attend to exhausted vocal cords.
Khan was planning to perform at the JazzLive International concert in Pittsburgh, PA, this Sunday (Jun. 9), and also had tour dates in Columbia, MD (June 8), Columbus, Ohio (June 14), and Toronto, Canada (June 18 and 19).
Her The iKhan Project was slated for release July 2. It has been pushed back until the fall.
“Due to her doctor's orders, it's best that we move the date to give her the proper and adequate time to promote and market the new album," Tammy McCrary, Khan's manager, said in a statement. “We are looking forward to a great project and a very robust concert and tour schedule this fall."
Khan is still planning to show at the Apollo Spring Gala in New York this coming Monday (Jun 10). She will be inducted into the Apollo Theater's Hall of Fame and serenaded by Patti LaBelle and Mary J. Blige. Erykah Badu will present her with the honor.
LaBelle, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin (who was forced to rest this month) are among the previous inductees.
The "Through the Fire" singer was glowing as she recently celebrated her 60th birthday. Her latest recording, other than those for the forthcoming album, was a tribute song for Trayvon Martin, "Super Life: Fear Kills, Love Heals" with Eric Benet, Kelly Price and Luke James.
