See Why Meghan Markle Won't Be Rocking a Hand-Me-Down Engagement Ring

The future Black princess will get that "new new."

"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” is how the traditional wedding rhyme goes. But when it comes to Meghan Markle’s engagement ring, Prince Harry will be looking for something neither old or blue (and definitely not borrowed) but instead something totally brand new, reports People.com. All roads are leading to an engagement say sources close to the very private couple, and the Suits actress having just left her day job after seven years is only fueling rumors that a royal wedding could be in the near future.

While Prince William didn’t have to worry about finding a ring since he proposed to Kate Middleton with the late Princess Diana’s 12-carat sapphire and diamond ring, Prince Harry will get Meghan a ring of her very own.

“I think it will be extremely unique,” Leslie Field, author of The Queen’s Jewels, tells People, adding that she doesn’t think he will opt for a family heirloom. “I think he will buy her something new and something quite modern.”

“I have an idea Harry is going to choose not to go down the traditional route so much, in that he will not have a sapphire,” explains the royal jewelry expert. Not going with a traditional style is pretty fitting since there’s nothing traditional about this future princess — not only is Meghan an actress but she would be the royal family’s first Black princess!

“Meghan’s personal jewelry is very pretty, very delicate and almost always gold,” says Field. So maybe the first Black princess will sport a much more dainty ring than we've seen among the royals?

Guess, we’ll have to wait and see. Field leaves us with this, “Harry intends his marriage to be quite different and his ring for Meghan is going to be the start of a family collection of jewelry as opposed to a hand-me-down.”
