Box Office: Avengers Unseats Furious 7 With $187.7 Million
Furious 7 wasn't able to avenge its place at the top of the box office against Avengers: Age of Ultron. The first big release of the summer movie season pulled in a whopping $187.7 million upon its debut, making it the second biggest opening of all time.
Age of Ultron, which stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson, would have likely crossed $200 million were it not for the Floyd Mayweather/Manny Pacquiao fight on Saturday night, analysts speculate.
Coming a very distant second was Blake Lively‘s new film, Age of Adaline, which earned $6.3 million in its second weekend for a total $23.4 million so far.
Furious 7 fell to third place with an additional $6.1 million.
Rounding out the top five were Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and the animated film Home, which brought in $5.5 million and $4 million, respectively.
Next week, Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton's 5 Flights Up will seek a more mature audience, while Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara will be in Hot Pursuit of the top of the box office.
