Faizon Love Dubs Nicole Byer’s Netflix Special ‘Unfunny’
Comedian Faizon Love is not here for Nicole Byer’s latest Netflix special, BBW: Big Beautiful Weirdo.
The Couples Retreat star took to his Instagram page on Friday (Dec. 10), with his frustrations writing that, “So after very long consideration I felt the only way to get a Netflix special is to become a unfunny black women [sic]…” before taking shots at the female comedian. “My new name is Nicole Byer ... ,” Love wrote. “This is my transformation.” Faizon left the slick comment next to a side-by-side photo of him and Byer.
While many fans in the comment section agreed with Love, expressing that they, too,did not find the special to be all that entertaining, others scolded the Blue Crush actor for talking negatively about a fellow comedian, let alone a Black woman.
One Twitter user commented, “I cannot get with Nicole at all, but as a fellow comic, he should've kept that to himself. It comes off as bitterness and hateration.”
“Argh! I like you too bro. The hate is not something that I would have expected,” wrote a second critic. “You could have thrown shade at Netflix without throwing shade at this Queen. Why impose this kind of pain on her? Drinking and tweeting? I would say I was drinking, apologize.” “Surprised Faizon hasn't gotten 2 or 3 Netflix specials since the bar is so low,” commented a third person.
Beyer seemingly responded to Love’s post and criticisms about her show not being funny with an Instagram in which the 35-year-old wrote “Hi my special BBW is now streaming on @netflixisajoke I hope you enjoy and if you don’t thank you for watching.”
Last month, Love had much to say about another comedy project. While talking to TMZ, Love, who played the store manager in the original film, said even if there was an Elf sequel, he believes it wouldn’t need its original A-list leading star Will Ferrell, telling the media outlet that America is ready for a Black elf.
“I think Elf 2 could happen with Faizon Love for $22 million,” he told reporters. “You had a Black president, an orange president. Now it’s time for a Black elf.” Ferrell reportedly turned down a massive $29 million offer to another installment of the Christmas movie because he didn’t think it would be as successful as the first. Love joked that he would do it for some potato chips and $3,500.
