DDG Gets Candid On How He And Halle Bailey Got Pregnant After Nearly Two Years Of Dating
DDG and Halle Bailey's little bundle of joy sorta "just happened."
Since welcoming their son, Halo, in 2023, the entertainers have continued to drop details about their low-key pregnancy as first-time parents. During a recent interview on "The Jason Lee Show," the "Geekin'" rapper revealed getting pregnant wasn't really in the cards for the couple at the time.
"We weren’t aiming for a baby, but it just kinda happened," said DDG.
While he had been on tour at the time and Bailey was basking in the success of "The Little Mermaid," they decided to go forward with their pregnancy after discussing the desire to become parents.
“Both of us have the same interest in being parents. And I feel like she always wanted to be a mom,” explained DDG. “We always kind of just give off that energy, and I always wanted a kid. So, from there we just decided to go through with it.”
When DDG and Bailey were spotted on a beach in 2023 while "The Color Purple" star appeared to be pregnant, fans and critics went into a frenzy. After the arrival of baby Halo later that year, the chatter of their low-key pregnancy left some people feeling left out and in the cold. But DDG said that decision was made to prevent stress on the soon-to-be mom's health.
“I think it was more so, like, people were already giving us negative vibes. So it’s like, why let them know and then let them make her pregnancy stressful?”
Since giving birth, Bailey has also been outspoken on her decision to keep her pregnancy under wraps, while revealing pieces from her journey at her own pace.
When she began sharing details in January, trolls criticized that decision.
"I just wanted to make sure I had a beautiful and private healthy time in my journey," she said of her preference to share at her discretion. "I feel like sometimes as people in the limelight, people feel like they want to know every little thing about their life, but I think it's really beautiful if you keep some things private and sacred," she added.
That same month, she addressed a user on X (formally known as Twitter) who accused her of gaslighting the public.
"i’ll never understand why you are mad i protected my own peace, wouldn’t you do the same?" Bailey argued on the app.
In January, the duo announced baby Halo’s grand entrance into the world in a post on social media.
“Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son.. welcome to the world my halo. The world is desperate to know you,” Bailey posted on her Instagram, along with a photo of her hand holding that of her son.
