See The 9 Best Dressed Stars At The 2019 Oscars
The Oscars is always Hollywood's biggest night and while Black people always shine, we know that it's historically a controversial night as well. Three years after the #oscarssowhite protest, we have certainly started making moves in a positive direction. Black Panther received a historical nomination and from director Barry Jenkins to Oscar winner and performer, Jennifer Hudson and all-star athlete, Serena Williams, with only 4 days left in Black history month, we came to slay.
Michael B. Jordan in Tom Ford
Ok, so he played the bad guy in Black Panther but Michael B. Jordan looks so good, I think we can forgive a little museum break in and slight disruption to the poltical system in Wakanda. Styled by the L.A. based wunderkind, Ade Samuel, MJB is looking just as good clothed as he does shirtless in a Creed fighting montage. Plus, he brought his mom as his date. Does it get any sweeter? Probably not. He's laying on the "I'm perfect!" thick but, hello, is the most delicious thing that's ever been served.
Tessa Thompson in Chanel
Tessa Thompson rarely gets it wrong and this runway Chanel gown is with a triumph, especially as it was designed by the late Karl Lagerfeld. She wears it with effortless ease. The strapless stunner literally glitters all on it's own so Tessa paired it with minimal, although, priceless jewelry. She definitely adopted the less is more philosophy for this look and nailed it.
Regina King in Oscar de la Renta
Well now we can call her Oscar winner, Regina King and its very appropriate that she is wearing a dress by the house of the king of American fashion, Oscar de la Renta. Regina walked the carpet and accepted her rightly deserved award in this regal white gown which has a slit so legendary, I was checking twitter for a hashtag about her left leg. Paired with classic white Christian Louboutin piagalle pumps, she is a vision of style and grace.

Amandla Stenberg in Miu Miu
What a vision Amandla Stenberg is in this glittering Miu Miu gown. What's more, this finger-wave braid situation is just as mesmerizing as her look. She gets top marks all around. It is unbelievable that she is so young with such excellent taste but the kids are really something these days.
Billy Porter in Custom Christian Siriano
Because he was co-hosting the red carpet preshow, Billy Porter arrived early but his look was so good that everyone else could have turned around and gone home. This custom Christian Siriano gown and tuxedo hybrid is perfect for the man who also recently wore a pink-silk lined cape to the Golden Globes. It is so refreshing to see a man who is unafraid to play with fashion and this look is instantly iconic. He's not nominated for an Oscar this year, but still, what a win!
Jennifer Lopez in Tom Ford
Tom Ford traditionally only dresses one man and one woman for any single award show but since he also dressed J.Lo's man, A.Rod, it seems he was feeling quite generous. The 49 year old super performer looked phenomenal in this high neck, long sleeved gown. It is extraordinarily covered up for J.Lo but the Oscars, as they say, is a classy affair. I'm sure she has something else wild planned for the after-party but in the meantime, she is looking incredible.

Cicely Tyson
Cicely Tyson is wearing B. Michael couture, a Black designer who has been working with the actress for years. She is an absolute legend and slayed every bit of this look. She arrived very late to the red carpet which is allowed when you are 94 years old and about to school everyone on subjects like career longevity, general elegance and hats. It would not surprise me if the closed the doors when she arrived. Who else would we ever need to see?
Serena Williams in Armani Prive
We don't really need more proof that Serena Williams is a champion but showing up to the Oscars in couture Armani the same day that she dropped a new iconic Nike feature is a new level of eliminating all other competition. The snatched pony is wound as tight as some racquet strings but as we women know, pain is beauty. We're here for all parts of this stunning fashion statement.
Chadwick Boseman in Givenchy Couture
This is a look fit for a king, so how appropriate that King T'Challah himself is rocking this. Funny enough, this Givenchy look was also made by the very same team that made Meghan Markle's wedding gown so they are already very accustomed to dressing Black royalty. Boseman has made this long jacket look somewhat of a signature of his and this jacket is bringing the shiny chic glamor of Black Panther into the real world. Plus, that scarf is an extremely underrated accessory.
