LeBron James Breaks Silence About Brittney Griner's Arrest With Strong Statement About Biden's Response
LeBron James is speaking out about Britney Griner being held in Russia on drug charges.
In the trailer for the HBO series The Shop: Uninterrupted, James appears to criticize America’s efforts to bring Griner home, saying, “Now, how can she feel like America has her back? I would be feeling like, ‘Do I even wanna go back to America?’”
The discussion also includes Daniel Kaluuya, Marcus Rashford and Rashid Johnson. The episode drops this Friday, July 15. See the trailer below:
On Feb. 17, Griner, who had been in Russia playing for UMMC Yekaterinburg, was arrested by Russian Federal Customs Service at Sheremetyevo Airport near Moscow after agents said they found hashish oil vape cartridges in her luggage.
Griner recently penned an open letter to President Biden pleading for her freedom.
"I'm terrified I might be here forever," Griner wrote by hand from a Russian prison, according to CBS News, "On the 4th of July, our family normally honors the service of those who fought for our freedom, including my father who is a Vietnam War Veteran. It hurts thinking about how I usually celebrate this day because freedom means something completely different to me this year."
Last week, Griner pleaded guilty but said “there was no intent” to break the law.
According to CNN, Former Nevada Governor Bill Richardson and diplomat, will travel to Moscow in the next few weeks with the hopes of releasing Brittney Griner.
