Amazon Has Reportedly Paid $25M For A Rihanna Documentary
Rihanna has been in her fashion bag all year, and now she’s dipping into her film luggage, too.
Unfortunately for the Navy, it seems Rihanna really is dropping everything else besides some new music. On Thursday (Dec. 12) The Hollywood Reporter revealed that tech giant Amazon is producing a documentary on the Barbadian mogul princess. Rihanna previously premiered her second star-studded Savage x FENTY extravaganza through Amazon’s streaming platform and co-starred in Guava Island with Donald Glover.
The tech conglomerate reportedly dolled out a cool $25 million to secure the worldwide rights to the as-of-yet untitled project. The doc was helmed by director Peter Berg, who previously worked with Rih on her feature 2012 film debut, Battleship.
The film has reportedly been in development for several years as Berg followed Rihanna around to many of her globe-trotting endeavors, compiling 1,200 hours worth of footage, to offer an “unfiltered look” into the daily life of one of music’s biggest superstars. Berg shared some details about the under-the-wraps project with THR in 2017.
“That was a fun change of pace...to go travel with Rihanna around Europe,” he said. “We were in Nice [France]. She was going to do a concert on Bastille Day. And that truck driver who killed all those people plowed through them right in front of our hotel. So even in me trying to do something light, I had a very, very front row seat to something that horrific.”

No release date for the film has been announced thus far and further details are sparse at the moment. THR reported that Berg was given “unparalleled access into the singer’s life” and that the documentary will “[offer] private insights into Rihanna’s personality, sense of humor, work ethic, family and love.”
