Last Dragon Star on Remake With Rihanna: "There Is Only One Vanity"
At last week's 16th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival, Taimak, who is best known for playing Leroy Green in 1985's The Last Dragon, made a rare appearance on the red carpet for the premiere of Being Mary Jane. The Last Dragon is supposedly set to be remade with a cast that includes Samuel L. Jackson as Sho' Nuff and Rihanna as Laura Charles, a role that was made famous by 1980s sexpot Vanity.
About The Last Dragon remake with Rihanna, Taimak said, "Sony has some good ideas. I am looking forward to pitching some of my ideas and that is where we are at right now. Rihanna is wonderful. There is a lot of talent out there." After a comment that Rihanna is the Vanity of 2012, Taimak quickly added, "There is only one Vanity!"
Vanity was best known as the lead singer of Vanity 6, Prince's ex-girlfriend and the club classic "Nasty Girl." However, after nearly dying from drug abuse in 1994, she abandoned her stage name and became a born-again Christian. She now goes by her real name, Denise Matthews, and attributes her pop star past to "the devil." When asked if Taimak had any contact with his former co-star, he said, "She hit me up on Facebook not too long ago! She said, 'What's up?'"
